Arum says Pacquiao-Marquez III a hard sell

MANILA, Philippines – Boxing promoter Bob Arum is not likely to favor a third fight between Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao and 3-time world champion Juan Manuel Marquez, citing the Mexican's lack of marketability.

Donaire vs. Sydorenko - The most awaited fight

This is the most awaited fight of the year 2010. The big fight between the Philippine pride Nonito Donaire and  Volodymyr Sydorenko . Let us witness this big ring war.

Also in Anaheim, former flyweight world champion Nonito "Filipino Flash" Donaire (24-1, 16 KOs) fights former bantamweight world titleholder Volodymyr Sydorenko (22-2-2, 7 KOs) for an interim version of the WBA bantamweight title.

"Sydorenko is a very tough guy. He is very experienced and he knows how to win as well," Donaire said. "He is there to bring his name up as well in beating me."

Sydorenko, of the Ukraine, held the title for three years and made six successful title defenses. That's no easy feat.

"He has a different style than I have seen," said Donaire, whose style is also rather different.

Whoever wins has been promised a date with current WBC and WBO bantamweight titleholder Fernando Montiel, of Mexico, on Feb. 19.

Look for Khan to fold as soon as Maidana connects with his first big shot

By Scott Gilfoid: If I was a betting man, I would put my money on WBA light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (29-1, 27 KO’s) catching up and knocking out the heavily hyped but totally unproven WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) on December 11th in their fight at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Khan has built his impressive looking record on the backs of weak punchers, and his amateur experience in the Olympics was with protective head gear in short four round bouts. Read More...

Maidana must blast away at Khan’s weak chin early to get the win

By William Mackay: WBA light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (29-1, 27 KO’s) has the power and the pressure to get World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) out in a real hurry when they meet next month on December 11th at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada. However, the longer the fight goes the more of a chance that Khan will have to survive long enough to win a 12 round decision. Maidana has great power, to be sure, but he has clear stamina problems and his power dissipates rapidly after the midpoint of his fights. Read More...

Manny Pacquiao's Thanksgiving list

"Thank you for the 'tarkee'!"- A fan was taped on HBO's Dela Hoya-Pacquiao 24/7 show thanking Pacquiao for the turkey he handed out during Thanksgiving of 2008.

It's Thanksgiving Day in the US of A and there's no better holiday- other than Christmas of course- for people to give thanks.

In the Manny Pacquiao household, there's plenty of thanks to go around. But Thanksgiving Day is an American thing, and with Pacquiao busy with his congressional duties and basking in the glory of his most recent victory thousands of miles away while the biggest turkey in boxing is still avoiding the possibility of being slaughtered and served up inside the ring by boxing's true pound-for-pound king, allow me to put together a list of people in boxing that Pacquiao owes some thanking. Sergio Martinez Knocks Out Williams: Manny Pacquiao Next?

If a lot of people were surprised last year when an impressive Sergio Martinez lost a majority decision to Paul Williams last year, they must be in total shock today after the Argentinean knocked him into next week in their rematch.

The 35-year-old southpaw connected with one of the most devastating punches in boxing history at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City on Nov. 20. The crushing blow sent the 29-year-old Williams crashing face-first to the mat.

The crowd in the arena and millions watching on TV knew it was all over as soon as the typically iron-jaw Williams kissed the canvas because there was no way he was getting up from such a brutal left hand. He seemed to be knocked cold immediately after the punch connected, long before he even started falling downward. Read More...

Nonito Donaire Vs Volodymyr Sydorenko

Another big fight of the year is the fight between Donaire and Sydorenko which will be held at The Honda Center, Anaheim, California. The Bantamweight fight ring war will be this coming December 4, 2010.

Donaire recently signed a two-fight contract with Top Rank to culminate in the duel with Montiel. However, the bout is contingent on Donaire beating Sydorenko, a former WBA bantamweight king and 2000 Sydney Olympic bronze medalist, and Montiel disposing of his next challenger, likely Mexico’s Alejandro Valdez, on Nov. 20.

“I’m super excited,” said Donaire in an overseas phone call from his home in San Mateo, California. “I’ve been itching to face an elite opponent and Sydorenko is up there among the quality fighters. This is a big test for me because I will be fighting as a bantamweight. How I do against Sydorenko will determine if I’m prepared for Montiel. Obviously, if I don’t beat Sydorenko, the Montiel fight is off so for me, losing isn’t an option.”

Why Manny Pacquiao hasn’t fought a top African-American box

In a perfect world, people are 'color-blind.' But this is America.

So to expect sports to be devoid of racial prejudices is unrealistic. It's like asking Floyd Mayweather Jr. to simply fight Manny Pacquiao as he did his previous 41 other opponents instead of asking for an Olympic-style random drug testing on top of all his other demands out of nowhere -- it sounds simple, but there's simply more to it.  Read More...

Antonio Margarito – Redemption of the heart

By By Ibrar Arshad: After a long time I have decided to write an article again. The reason for my absence is the amount of ignorance I was beginning to see in boxing fans on this website, as well as the poor articles that other authors were posting. Sometimes it’s disheartening to see fans of a sport that I so dearly love, overlook values that every boxer has ever laid out in their careers. Unfortunately a lot of boxing fans have become disrespectful to the sport they claim to love. I have read remarks that are hateful, racist and completely unreasonable. It really has become sad. Is the Williams vs. Martinez Winner the Next Pacquiao Opponent?

The Paul Williams vs. Sergio Martinez rematch continues boxing's excellent closing session for the year. Conveniently, it's being held just a week after the Pacquiao vs. Margarito junior middleweight title bout, which was contested at a catchweight of 150 lbs. Even more conveniently, Williams vs. Martinez II is also being held at a catchweight, 158 lbs. Considering that both men seem comfortable at the division limit of 160 lbs, and Martinez holds the real middleweight title of the world, it's odd that the rematch would be fought at a weight less than the full division limit. Odd, that is, if you didn't figure that each man was angling for a chance to land the Manny Pacquiao Sweepstakes, and secure a massive payday for fighting the sport's pound for pound king and major attraction. Forget Fraudley, there’s something about Manny

In the late 60s and early 70s, the era of great heavyweight boxers such as Joe Frazier, Muhammad Ali and George Foreman, the average weekly wage in Ireland was less than €20. In comparison, the cost of David Haye v Audley Harrison sold for €22 on Sky Box Office. Even taking into account inflation, nobody can deny that such a figure is a bit of a rip-off. For a match described by promoter Frank Warren as the ‘worst I’ve seen,’ it was especially galling. Read More...
